Mayflower PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR – Job Announcement

For over 50 years, Mayflower Preschool has been a ministry of Community Congregational United Church of Christ (CCUCC) in Los Alamitos. We are proud of Mayflower’s reputation as a non-religious preschool that welcomes all with exceptional teachers and programming at an affordable price. Instruction at Mayflower is a healthy combination of academics and play that incorporates art, sensory learning, cooking, painting, music, story time, and lots of outside playtime on our big, beautiful playground.

The Human Resources Team for CCUCC and Mayflower Preschool is excited to meet qualified candidates for the position of “Mayflower Preschool Director.” This position is 32-35 hours/week with potential to grow to a full-time salary through increased enrollment, fundraising and collaboration with our church’s youth and family program. The Director will maintain operation of the preschool and supervision of the teaching staff. The Director will report to the church pastor as manager with oversight from the Church Council’s HR team.

Qualifications: The Director must be committed to the mission of Mayflower Preschool (http://www.mayflowerpreschoollosal.org/) and Community Congregational United Church of Christ (http://www.ccucclosal.org/). Our ideal candidate would have either a Child Development Program Director Permit OR Child Development Site Supervisor Permit  through the State of California.

Education and Work Experience: State Permits for Program Director or Site Supervisor require either a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood development (or a related field) with at least one year of leadership or management with related teaching experience OR a master’s degree or higher in early childhood education or child/human development (or another closely related field). A plus is experience coordinating youth and family programs in an Ecumenical or Multi-Religious setting.

Minimum State Requirements: High school graduation or GED; completion, with passing grades, of 15 units at an accredited or approved college or university; and at least four years of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program. Three of the 15 units required shall be in administration or staff relations. Twelve of the 15 units required shall include courses that cover the general areas of child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-2pm (flexible), plus appointments and on-call as needed, up to 35 hours/week. Attendance is required at Church Council meetings on the third Sunday each month between 11:30-1:30pm.

Salary & Benefits: Competitive wage or salary based on experience. Medical Insurance Allowance offered. Federal holidays and 6 personal days off per year, plus 4 weeks paid vacation.
