UCC Congregations Explore Addressing Homelessness. YOU ARE INVITED

homeless-manHomelessness is not new.  Many of us have been looking for permanent solutions to the homeless problem, ones which permanently transform lives.  Habitat for Humanity has been offering one of those transformational solutions for a number of years.  The process is slow – building one home at a time – but it is successful.  A new Habitat program is being introduced in dense urban areas such as ours, in which Habitat helps rehabilitate old homes for low income families in an effort to keep low income homeowners (often elderly, the disabled, or veterans) from losing their homes and becoming homeless.

A small group of UCC congregations have joined together to explore the possibilities of working with Habitat as a UCC coalition on an LA Build.  Rev. Mark Pettis (Manhattan Beach Community Church),  Rev. Elena Larssen (First, Long Beach) and Rev. Dan Smith (West Hollywood UCC) would like to invite you to a conversational gathering WEDNESDAY., Jan 7, 2015 at noon at West Hollywood UCC.  We’ll go out for lunch or order in lunch.

We’d like to find out if your congregation is interested in participating in a Habitat Build, and if so, how we can make that work as members of a UCC Coalition.  We’d love to have you come and participate in the discussion.

For more information, feel free to email Rev. Dan Smith (dan@wehoucc.org) or Rev. Mark Pettis (mark.pettis@mbccucc.org)

If you are able to attend, please RSVP to Dan Smith (dan@wehoucc.org).
