Happening in Our Neighbor Conference: Southwest Conference UCC Announces New Position: Immigrant Care Coordinator

Tyler Connoley

The Rev. Tyler Connoley

With the recent press regarding women and children refugees at the border, American awareness of immigrant needs has exploded. While some have responded with anger and fear, UCC churches around the country have responded to God’s call to welcome the stranger, and have added or stepped-up ministries to immigrants. They have been contacting our conference offices and local churches, asking how they can help. At the same time, our SWC churches have found themselves on the forefront of responding to a growing sense of urgency for caring for immigrants.

Recognizing our unique position within the United States and the leadership our churches have already demonstrated in this area, Linda Jaramillo, Executive Minister of Justice & Witness Ministries, offered us a grant to create an Immigrant Care Coordinator position within the Southwest Conference. The Rev. Tyler Connoley, pastor of Silver City UCC, has agreed to take on the task.

Initially, Tyler will be contacting each of our local churches to find out what you are currently doing to help immigrants, and where you can use support. He will also build bridges with organizations within and beyond the UCC who are working with immigrants, and will be the main contact for churches around the country who want information about how they can best help.

Expect a contact from Tyler within the next few weeks, and feel free to contact him tconnoley@uccswc.org. We are thrilled to have him ministering in this new capacity.
