About the Film

God Loves Uganda explores the role of the American evangelical movement in Uganda, where American missionaries have been credited with both creating schools and hospitals and promoting dangerous religious bigotry. The film follows evangelical leaders in America and Uganda along with politicians and missionaries as they attempt the radical task of eliminating “sexual sin” and converting Ugandans to fundamentalist Christianity.

About the Campaign

God Loves Uganda is a powerful tool for social change. Along with the film, we will launch a social action campaign, aimed at bringing more transparency to church funding. Our goals are to:

1. Increase the accountability and transparency of church funding and missionary
2. Increase awareness of the U.S. exportation of hate and intolerance at the hands of
some American Evangelical churches
3. Drive U.S. faith communities to take action for inclusivity and against the spread of
hate, specifically against the LGBT community

To achieve these goals, this October we’re launching the ‘Keep the Plate Clean’ campaign. Initiatives include a petition demanding more transparency and accountability around church donations, a ‘Keep Hate Off the Plate Card’ to drop in the Collection Plate next Sunday, and a Faith Leader manifesto. The latter allows leaders to publicly declare that no church funds from their church support any hate efforts overseas.

How You Can Get Involved:

Adopt a Screening

We’re looking for partners to join us in theaters and ‘adopt’ screenings. All you have to do is pick a theater showing, secure a speaker for a 15 – 30 minute post-screening discussion, commit to promoting the event to your local network, and secure a minimum of 25 tickets sold (we can get you a discount!). This is a low-cost opportunity to highlight your work, and expose a new audience to the need for increased accountability in our churches.

Take a Group

We are inviting churches, non-profits, student groups – and many more – to commit to bringing a group to the theater! Theater attendance is crucial for a documentary opening weekend. The more people see it, the more people will talk about it and the greater impact we can have. If you can bring a group, we can give you a discount.

Host a Screening

Want to bring the film directly to your community? You can book a film screening by purchasing the film’s one-time public screening license. With the license, you will also receive our screening kit, discussion guide, and press kit. If you do not have the capacity to host a stand-alone event, someone in your network might! Any potential screening hosts can contact us directly.
