“THE STONE” A Story of Covenant

TheStone2The play “THE STONE” is composed with the stories of Asian immigrants who have struggled in settling down their lies in the States.  We invite the United Church of Christ to see this play as it will help  your churches understand Asian cultures and histories and also help all of us learn to embrace one another as one Church.

“THE STONE” is written and directed by Young Lan Kim, the North American Pacific/Asian Disciples representative for the Pacific Southwest Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  Young Lan Kim’s thoughts on the play:

if we do not understand others who came from different cultures and histories, the movement for wholeness will be in vain.  In “THE STONE,” we reflect our experiences and struggles as immigrants.  It delivers pains, wound, and hope of Asian immigrants.  At some point of our lives, people in the States immigrated into this country and had same struggles and difficulties in their family histories.  We believe many people will find their sympathy in our stories and it will help them to embrace Asian sisters and brothers who are experiencing the same difficulties and pains in life.

“THE STONE” also deals with conflicts between generations and identity issues.  It is easy to lose who we are in this new land and conflicts of generations are a serious issue in the life of immigrants.  However, Asian community is not only one who has this conflicts and identity issues.  Those are very common in any other ethnic communities.

TheStone3As “THE STONE” share the stories of people who have been faced with those issues, it comforts our sisters and brothers who are in difficulties of life and encourage them to stand still as they hold the promise of God.  It is also asking Christians to check up their lives in faith.
