Mission Hills UCC Rolls out the Red Carpet for Peppermint Ridge

by Tracy Mauser, Director of Development, Peppermint Ridge

PeppermintRidge When 30 residents and staff from Peppermint Ridge arrived at San Diego’s Mission Hills United Church of Christ (MHUCC) for our annual Palm Sunday visit, a tradition started more than 15 years ago, everyone we met gave us a smile and warm welcome. What a wonderful way to start our visit!  How quickly everyone at MHUCC saw beyond the developmental disabilities and into the hearts of the men and women from The Ridge.

The residents who make up the Rejoicers choir were excited to sing and eagerly filled the two front pews on each side of the sanctuary.  After a heartfelt rendition of the “Lady Bug Song” and “If You’re Happy and You Know It” the members of the congregation gave them a standing ovation! Nothing could have made them happier.

Generous contributions were also presented by the church body and the Women’s Fellowship.  These financial gifts will go toward the purchase of a new dining room table and chairs for Dudley Home, a residence serving six men and women who are developmentally disabled and medically fragile.

Next came a great lasagna luncheon prepared and served by Mission Hills’ amazing youth group – salad, pasta, bread, pie and pudding, all delicious! A wonderful time was had by all, thanks to the loving lengths MCUCC’s members go to make us welcome.  No wonder our yearly visit is so eagerly anticipated by Ridgers and staff alike!

The Rejoicers’ love for life is contagious.  To schedule a visit that will touch the hearts of your congregation, please call or email Tracy Mauser at 951 273-7329 or tmauser@PeppermintRidge.org today.
