Celebrating the Work of One of Our Own (Part 2) Selections from Thoughts from The Eye’s Mind: An April Shower of Poems*

Corvus Corax

Look to the sky
At civilization’s edge – at sky’s edge
There you will find Raven

Restless as its ruffled feathers – intimidating
The shadow side – haunting voice summons death
Dark and foreboding – dark and foreboding
Do not fear!

Look to the sky
At civilization’s edge – at sky’s edge
There you will find Raven

Playing, yes playing
Soaring, diving, twisting, and turning
Calling the world to abandonment
Freedom unleashed – uninhibited

Teach me, shining bird
To turn shadows into joy
To know what is edge today – limit, extent, bounds
Is only the beginning – initial, start, beginning

That my spirit may claim the sky as my playground
That I might fly!

We

If ever there is to be peace on earth
We must lay down our weapons and share our privilege
It is we who are responsible for the dawning day

It is we – not our parents or children or elected officials
It is we – not neighbors or cousins who are empowered

If ever there is to be advancement for everyone
We must lay down our prejudice and share with all

It is we – not scientists or faith leaders nor politicians
It is we – not the passage of time or God Almighty

If ever – now
If ever – we

The dawn is upon us
The day awaits unfolding
