What is ARI?
“We are dedicated to training grassroots rural leaders from the most marginalized parts of the world, primarily in Asia and Africa. The aim is to facilitate self-development of rural people in order to build a just and peaceful world. As we put emphasis on food self-sufficiency we practice organic farming as an international community of learning and sharing.”

About our speaker, J.B. Hoover, Executive Director, American Friends of the Asian Rural Institute:

J.B. has been associated with the Asian Rural Institute since 1993 when he joined the staff. Prior to that, he worked with Indochinese refugees in the Philippines for 4 years. He also worked in a model rural community in Japan called KEEP (Kiyosato Experiment Education Project) as a volunteer for about a year.
This background, plus graduate studies in International Agricultural Development at UC Davis, were helpful to him in the work at ARI, where he served for 12 years until 2005. Come and find out more about his work at ARI.
