UCC Worship in the Park

Worship-in-the-Park-1UCC Worship in the Park

Crystal Springs Picnic Area of Griffith Park, Los Angeles
Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014 – 11 am

About 150 UCC’ers will be participating in Worship in the Park this year including members of eight UCC churches:  San Marino Congregational Church, Altadena Community Church, First Congregational Church of Glendale, Hollywood Independent UCC, West Hollywood UCC, Woodland Hills Community Church, Westwood Hills Congregational Church, and MCC/UCC in the Valley, which is one of the newest congregations in Central Association.

You and/or your church are more than welcome to participate also!

“Worship in the Park” combines a great worship service and super-size “church picnic” in the beautiful setting of the Crystal Springs Picnic Area of Griffith Park.  It will be held on Sunday, September 28 at 11 am.  We’ll have a one-hour worship service followed by a BBQ and picnic.  We also have a “Kids’ Church School in the Park” for younger and older kids.

Dress, of course, is very casual and grass-stain resistant!  Bring sunblock, folding chairs or a blanket to sit on and some food to share for a big picnic.

Below are detailed directions.  There will also be people holding directional signs that say, “UCC WORSHIP” with arrows to guide you to our site.  Follow the signs or ask for assistance.  There is ample parking around our worship and picnic area.

Food and Clothes:

•    In the Park it can be cool in the morning and warm/hot in the afternoon.  Check the weather forecast and bring a sweater or jacket if needed.
•    This is a park!  Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little grass stain on!
•    If you have a folding chair or table, bring it.
•    Make your offering check payable to YOUR HOME CHURCH and use your own church’s offering envelopes if you have them.
•    Each Church will be coordinating bringing its own picnic food to share.
•    Those not coming as part of a church group, bring hot dogs, hamburgers or veggie burgers and rolls for you and/or your family.  There will be plenty of other picnic food to share.
•    There will be Church School activities for younger kids.  Depending on the number of kids, we may need some parents to volunteer to help.

Parking:

Our picnic areas, (B &C) have 15 picnic tables and are right across the grass from any of these 3 parking lots:

1)  just past the bathroom pavilion there is a parking lot (to your left).  Walk straight across the grass.
2)  if that lot is full, the road turns to the right and there is another parking lot.  Walk straight across the grass.
3)  if that lot is full, the road turns to the right again and there is another parking lot back towards the freeway.
Go slightly to your right and walk across the grass.
Any parking lot works.

These directions are overly detailed and guaranteed to get you there!!!  If you get lost, call Laurie’s cell @ 213-725-9208.
