~Connecting Church and Culture~

Find rest and renewal for your soul as Mary and B. J. lead a time of centering before the holiday rush. Through meditation, worship, quiet conversation, and reflective journaling, we will celebrate our connection to the Great Mystery.

Your spirit will be strengthened as you prepare to lead others in the rich spiritual journeys that mark late November and December.  We will sing, drum, listen, read, write, share our stories, experience the texture of silence, and find God at the center of it all.  Lunch and snacks will feed our bodies while the retreat feeds our souls. Come in anticipation of new beginnings and new birth as we prepare to move into a season of anticipation.

ABOUT YOUR RETREAT LEADERS
Rev. B. J. Beu serves as pastor of Neighborhood Congregational Church in Laguna Beach, CA. where he lives with his spouse, Mary Scifres, and their son, Michael. Before coming to Laguna in 2008, Beu spent 13 years as pastor of the Fox Island United Church of Christ in the Pacific Northwest Conference.   Having heard his call to ministry in the mountains of New Mexico and again on a Lakota Sun Dance in South Dakota, Beu brings a unique perspective to spirituality and renewal.  His pastoral calling has always been closely connected to his gifts for spiritual focus and direction.  As a passionate believer in creative worship, Beu has also co-authors and edits “The Abingdon Worship Annual” with his spouse Mary Scifres.

Rev. Mary J. Scifres, United Methodist Pastor and Abingdon Press Author, is a national consultant, preacher, teacher, and coach in worship, visioning, leadership, and church growth.  Having served churches across the nation, Mary brings a broad perspective and diverse understanding of both church and culture.   Mary is author of Searching for Seekers , The Abingdon Worship Annual, Just In Time Special Services, Prepare! and The United Methodist Music and Worship Planner.
