UCC Partners with United Camps, Conferences & Retreats

In 1969, a group of northern California pastors committed to the understanding that outdoor ministries and the residential camp & retreat experience was a vital aspect of faith development, gathered to begin to create a vision for sustaining their respective denomination’s camp and conference facilities. They sought to keep their sites open year round and increase availability to a variety of non-profit groups. Among the original group of churches that formed UCCR were the United Church of Christ in Northern California-Nevada, The Christian Church in Northern California-Nevada, the Presbytery of San Francisco, the American Baptist Church of Northern California, and the United Methodist Conference in Northern California-Nevada.

In 1970, United Camps, Conferences and Retreats (UCCR) was formed. A not-for-profit cooperative model was established in which each owner group would provide representation to the Board of Directors and a “cooperative services fee” would be paid by each site according to percentage of revenue. This fee is used to fund a central office that provides: Reservations; Marketing; Environmental Education; Finance & Accounting; Project Management; Human Resources & Staff Development; Insurance comprehension, and more.

UCCR’s mission is “Creating partnerships to provide positive life-changing experiences”. Our mission is two-fold: to fully supporting your program while you are enjoying one of our facilities; and to provide excellence in the stewardship of the properties with which we have been entrusted. UCCR’s expertise in managing and operating property gives the owner organizations confidence that their facility has a steward who cares about their mission as well as the missions of the groups we serve.

In the Spring of 2012, UCCR will begin management of Pilgrim Pines Camp & Conference Center. It is with excitement and mutual collaboration that the UCC and UCCR enter into this new partnership. We look forward to this affiliation as it unfolds for both organizations.

UCCR sends out quarterly E-Newsletters with information on sites and seasonal specials being offered. Please visit www.UCCR..org and sign up for the newsletter!
