San Dimas UCC Food Pantry Receives $1000 Grant from the Make a Difference Fund!

With gratitude San Dimas UCC thanks the Southern California Nevada Conference and the Make a Difference Fund for their grant of $1000 to help with the continued mission ministry of our Hunger Project.  The Hunger Project operates from our church kitchen every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon, distributing food staples to area residents in need of assistance.  We work in partnership with the Inland Valley Hope Partners and many churches which provide both food donations and volunteers.  Donations are also received from scout groups, quilting groups, individuals  and local stores which give “day-old” food items to help stock our shelves.

Over the past two years the numbers of clients have doubled each year.  Our participation in the UCC MISSION 11-11-11 filled the corner of our sanctuary with canned goods which have already been dispersed.  Thirty-five baskets of food were given to families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  As San Dimas Community Church celebrates its 100th year this May, we have a goal of collecting as many “100” donations as possible to supply our Food Pantry for the summer months.  Rev. Liz Moore (UCC resident at Pilgrim Place and church member) has organized the Pantry’s operations for several years.

With the increased need over the past several years, donations have also increased–a testimony to the generous Spirit-filled people in our church and community and especially to this generous grant.  We feel called by God to continue this mission ministry as faithfully as we can into the future.
