RHF Celebrates 51st Anniversary

During the week of February 20th, Retirement Housing Foundation (RHF) will be celebrating its 51st Anniversary. RHF provides affordable housing and services to nearly 18,000 seniors, low income families and persons with disabilities throughout the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

On Thursday, February 23rd, members and friends of the Southern California Nevada Conference of the UCC are invited to a 7:30 pm worship service at the Community Congregational United Church of Christ (4111 Katella Avenue, Los Alamitos) to hear Dr. Teruo Kawata and to celebrate the organization’s ministry.

Dr. Kawata holds three Bachelor of Arts degrees and two Doctorate degrees.  He is former General Secretary and former Conference Minister of the Hawaii Conference and the Central Pacific Conference of the United Church of Christ (UCC). He also served as pastor of churches in Hawaii and California, 1952-1970.   He is now retired and a resident of Honolulu, Hawaii.  Since his retirement, he has served as University Pastor and Visiting Professor of Preaching at the Silliman University in the Philippines, Interim Conference Minister of the Southern California Conference, and Interim Minister of two local Churches.  He is the author of “Fire in My Bones:  Sermons from the Pulpit of the Silliman University Church” (1991) and has written several articles for UCC publications. Dr. Kawata is retiring from RHF’s National Board of Directors after 15 years of service.
