Summer Camp 2011 Mission Project: Got Spirit? For Disaster Relief

This summer our campers will learn about UCC Disaster Relief efforts at home and abroad during one of our evening special sessions.  They will be using resources provided by national UCC Disaster, Volunteer, and Refugee Ministries offices

We will be folding origami cranes and sending the cranes to UCC partner ministries in Japan and to various sites in the United States where natural disasters have occurred.  We will receive a donation of 3000 pieces of origami paper from Origami Corner in Wernersville, Pennsylvania to assist in this project.  We will be reading the story of Sakado and the thousand paper cranes to our camp family.

We are asking members and friends of the Southern California Nevada Conference to donate to Disaster Relief by pre-purchasing a crane for $1.00.  We will send you an acknowledgement and will provide a list of donors to the national UCC offices when we remit the funds.  One half of the donations will go to Japan relief, especially to Jeff Mesendiek, a UCC missionary working with youth programs in Sendai and one half to domestic relief.

We appreciate your gift of hope and prayers for all those affected by these disasters.
