Fallen Is Babylon: Pre-Synod Event

If you are planning to attend this year’s UCC General Synod in Tampa, Florida, plan to go a day early and participate in a special event sponsored by the Southeast Conference  (SEC) Theology Among the People (TAP) program and the UCC Justice and Witness Ministries.  “Fallen Is Babylon: The American Empire and the Commonwealth of God” will take participants on an in-depth analysis of the American empire and its impact on our lives.  Led by pastors Joyce Hollyday, Tom Warren, Bernice Powell Jackson, Kathy Clark, and others, the day will focus on Bible study, worship, and practical implications of and ideas for resistance to Empire through faithful and just living.

“Fallen Is Babylon” will be held on Thursday, June 30th at the First United Church of Tampa. The registration fee is $40 per person, which includes lunch.  Registration is from 8:00-8:30 a.m. with morning refreshments available. The formal program begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 5:30 p.m.  There will also be a “sackcloth and ashes” vigil for peace at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa on Monday, July 4th.

Registration for this event is now available on-line at http://www.secucc.org/news/conference-news/369 where you will also find additional information.  Or you can contact SEC Associate Conference Minister Kathy Clark at kclark@secucc.org.  Make plans now to join us!
