Successful Love Walk for Peppermint Ridge

by Rev. Audrey Turner, Executive Director

On Saturday, November 13, a group of about 300 gathered for the Fifth Annual Love Walk and 5-K Fun Run for Peppermint Ridge. Included were most of the Ridge’s 100 residents, along with staff, family members, and supporters from the community, local churches and businesses, and UCC churches from around the Conference.

The fundraising goal of $30,000 was met, but perhaps its most important purposes were fun and friendship. Among the participants were several dozen elementary students, who took part in special games and activities designed just for them. Music students from the nearby Fender Center provided a lively backdrop of classic rock and roll. The Peppermint Ridge residents look forward to the annual event for its festive atmosphere and the experience of being full participants in a shared activity.

Peppermint Ridge is a covenanted ministry of the SCNC, and provides loving homes and support services to individuals with developmental disabilities. The Ridge’s 12 homes are located in Corona; residents are accepted from throughout California. The Ridge strives to provide stability in the lives of its residents and to guide them toward greater independence and fuller participation in the community. Peppermint Ridge changes lives, by providing the highest possible quality of life for its residents, and by providing peace of mind to their families. Peppermint Ridge needs the financial support of churches and faithful individuals to assure the long-term viability of this faith-based mission.
