Dear SCNC UCC friends,
When you 'got' me as your Interim Conference
Minister, you also 'got' a proud member of the Church
World Service Board of Directors (I am one of the UCC
reps). So from time to time you will be hearing about
how you and your church are part of Christs's work
around the world through CWS. The UCC is one of
the denominational members and we support Church World
Service through our giving to Our Church's Wider
Mission, through One Great Hour of Sharing, Blanket
Sundays, CROP walks and through special disaster
response offerings. In the four years that I
have served on this Board, I have been profoundly
impressed with the tremendous quality of the staff and
the work accomplished. Through Church World
Service, YOU and your church, as part of the UCC, are
part of ongoing relief in the tsunami and Katrina
disaster regions, in the region of California fires, but
also in places we may never have heard of where
lives have been torn apart by war, earthquake, flooding
or other human or nature made disasters. So from
time to time, I will send on little items about our work
through CWS, sometimes just for information, sometimes
inviting your 'above and beyond' contributions which may
be sent through the Conference (when clearly
marked!).
For now, let me share this appeal for clean-up
kits! Gathering the items and putting the kits
together is a great all-church or youth group, Bible
school, church school project. I have served in
areas where these kits have been needed by the
hundreds. Other CWS kits such as personal hygiene
and school kits are needed year round, too. You
can learn more about how-to by following the link below.
(Please note that the kits need to be compiled very
carefully following the directions and your church has
to also raise the funds to ship the kits to a gathering
point...).
Thank you for all you already do to support
Church World Service, a ministry of the United Church of
Christ with other faith partners, and thank you in
advance for kit projects you may
undertake.
In Christ,
Jane
