CONGRATULATIONS Pioneer Ocean View UCC!

On Sunday, October 28th Pioneer Ocean View UCC voted to become an Open and Affirming church.

Border Ministry Dedication

The SCNC, UCC Justice and Witness Ministries and the Southern Association have covenanted together to establish a Border Ministry Center in San Ysidro, CA and will dedicate the building that will house the Center on Saturday, December 15.  The Conference Board of Directors are making available a church facility in San Ysidro for this ministry and have named the Center The Daniel Romero Border Ministry Center in honor of Dan's 37 years of ministry.  Interested persons are invited to attend the event beginning at noon with lunch and music.  The service of dedication will be held at 1:00 p.m.

The facility is located at 173 W. Hall Street in San Ysidro, south of Chula Vista.  This is the last city before crossing into Tijuana.  The facility can be reached by taking the San Ysidro Blvd exit off the 805 freeway (south...the last exit before reaching the border) and turning right to Cottonwood Street. Turn right on Cottonwood and the facility is located two blocks up the street.

PARKING IS GOING TO BE VERY CHALLENGING.

The dedication service will be held on the facility's parking lot which will therefore not be available for parking.  This is a residential area and parking in the neighborhood will be tight.  The Conference is exploring alternative possibilities for parking. We suggest that those who would like to attend this event carpool where possible.  Please check with the Conference office (626-798-8082) as the date approaches to check on alternate parking possibilities.

We look forward to an exciting celebration.

National Youth Event
NYE Logo Living The Life

The UCC National Youth Event (NYE) will be held July 24-28, 2008 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Held once every four years, NYE is an opportunity for the youth of our denomination to gather and celebrate their faith through worship, workshops, recreation and fellowship.  The cost for NYE is $345 per person, which includes housing and meals.

The NYE Planning Team invites conference and local church staff as well as youth leaders to help us offer engaging workshops that will teach, inspire and minister to the youth and youth leaders.  We rely upon the diverse gifts of many people to provide a broad range of workshop topics, such as social justice concerns, spirituality and the arts, church leadership, environmental care, and youth-relevant pastoral concerns.

Those who volunteer to offer a workshop will be recognized with our sincere appreciation in the NYE program book. We regret that budget constraints do not allow us to pay workshop leaders.

To register as a workshop leader, please complete the registration form (found here) and send it to Rev. Kelly Burd, NYE Coordinator at burdk@ucc.org (or mail to the address provided on form) by November 26, 2007.

We hope that you will save the date for NYE 2008 and help us to offer exciting and faith-growing workshops for our youth and those who minister to them.
