Quick News From Jane
Jane Fisler Hoffman, Interim Conference Minister
Dear Colleagues,

A few weeks ago I shared some of my own reflections on praying in these economic times.   Other Conference Ministers have been sending their own pastoral letters and sharing them with one another.  I thought you might be interested in seeing one of these so am sharing with you the pastoral letter of Rev. Dr. Jim Antal, Conference Minister of the Massachusetts Conference.  My other colleagues have also written wisely and well but this one also offers several links to helpful information, as you will see.  Jim also makes reference to a piece by Rev. Dr. Susan Thistlethwaite, former President of Chicago Theological Seminary and a powerful theologian.

Finally, as I have been doing my own reflecting and praying, I turned to a worship resource from a truly meaningful event I attend in Ghana, the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) in 2004.  The entire event was themed on economic justice, "That all may have life in fullness" and worship was powerful.  So I am offering a little piece I am using for a meeting today and thought others might find of value.  It includes a meaningful reflection on the Lord's prayer, from a global economic perspective.  Here is a link to that piece .

Through it all, we remember that our trust is in God, none other!

                        Meditation from Accra:
                                    We alone can devalue gold
                                    By not caring
                                    If it falls or rises
                                    In the marketplace.
                                    Wherever there is gold
There is a chain, you know,
And if your chain is gold
So much the worse for you.
                                    Feathers, shells
                                    And sea-shaped stones
                                    Are all as rare.
                                    This could be our revolution:
                                    To love what is plentiful
As much as what is scarce.
