Dear SCNC Members,

We know that you are committed not only to the ministry of your local church but also to the work of the wider church through our Conference of UCC congregations. As a person who seeks to be a part of the larger church, and who understands that local pastors need resources the local church can't provide, we ask you to consider an investment in our UCC Conference.

What happens when people care? Here are some ways the Conference reaches out in the name of all our congregations…

Together the Conference and Region sent more than 2,000 school kits to Church World Service in 2009. These Kits make a world of difference in the lives of refugees, displaced people, and victims of natural disasters. They give children in impoverished schools and refugee camps some of the basic tools for learning. And we share in a hope-filled tomorrow.

In a completely different way, individuals’ special giving provided vital help to the Moderator of a congregation that experienced painful conflict during this past year. Conference staff, members of Church and Ministry Committees, and a pastor with conflict reconciliation training gave her hours of help and support. As she and others in the congregation later testified, “It made an enormous difference to us to know that we were not alone – that we could turn to our Conference for support and guidance in turning around a truly difficult and baffling situation.”

When the partner of one of our congregation’s leaders died very suddenly and unexpectedly, he tells us “Our Conference Ministers came to support me. We had invited them to co-officiate in our commitment ceremony. As fate would have it, they instead co-officiated in my partner's memorial. It was through this covenantal relationship that I was given the support and pastoral care I needed in a very difficult time.”

More than 20 congregations have been working to find new pastoral leaders this year. This is a huge transition in many people's lives. investment made it possible to bring vital Conference and national resources to all those congregations. With this help, they are able to work through critical issues and decisions - and make the best possible choices for their members.

We invite you to participate more deeply in the Southern California Nevada Conference. We trust you can see just how your support will help change the lives of children and families throughout the area. We sincerely hope you will consider a generous contribution to our future together.

God bless you and your family this Holiday Season,
